Thanks to my friend Mike Stavlund, I have learned that the non official but totally brave "National Poetry Writing Month" challenge starts tomorrow. I think I might give that a whirl.
For those of you wanting to keep up, I've set up a category on my blog, so http://toyblog.typepad.com/lemon/nanpowrimo/ will work if you want to keep watch on the poems of the day. I'll probably tweet ( @mtoy ) and Facespam too.
I don't know if I have the magic sauce to make it 30 days in a row, that kind of consisent effort is not my strength, in fact it is one of my weaknesses. I tried to write a poem-a-day for lent a couple of years ago, and only made it to day three.
The good news, if I make it past day three, I've gone one day more than the last time I tried, so the bar for a moral victory is fairly low.
And here is a poem, which doesn't count ( because it is March 31st ), but is from the lenten experiment and speaks to this journey:
one of forty
one is the size of me
it is a number i am good at
one cup of coffee with a hurting friend
one day cooking a meal for the homeless
one story before bedtime
one is a promise
impossible to break
